Loft Insulation Installing loft insulation to the recommended level of 250mm (10") is an essential move in these times of constantly rising fuel prices. Why waste your money letting your expensive heat escape through your ceiling and roof? Preventing heat escape and therefore using less fuel also demonstrates a responsible attitude to protecting our environment. Carbon emissions attributed to domestic heating are calculated to be around 30% of our national output. Grants are available to top up existing loft insulation or install the full depth in lofts with none. Tanks and pipes are insulated at the same time because the loft area will no longer be warmed by escaping heat from below. Loft hatches are also covered. In lofts where the tanks are more than 1 metre from the hatch a walkway has to be installed to provide safe access by the plumber.
